OPA

Used to prevent the tongue from obstructing the airway.



Indication: unresponsive without gag reflex



Contraindications: conscious patient, or intact fag reflex

NPA

Nasopharyngeal airway



Indications: unresponsive with or without a gag reflex (if fag reflex prevents use of OPA)



Contraindications: conscious patient with intact airway capable of protecting own airway; severe head or facial trauma

Stridor

High-pitched sound indicating partial airway obstruction. Ascultated in neck not lungs
