Dose: inhalant; should be broken and inhaled. Repeated as needed.

Aspirin(ASA)

Class: Anti-inflammatory,platelet inhibitor


Actions: Blocks platelet aggregation


Indications:Chest pain associated with an MI

Precautions: GI bleeding

Atropine

Calcium Chloride

Diazepam(Valium)

Side effects: Fatigue, Headache, Dizziness


Dose: 0.2mg IV over 30 seconds. Repeat as needed max dose 1.0mg.

Furosemide(Lasix)

Class: Diuretic


Actions:Inhibits reabsorption of sodium, vasodilatation


Indications:CHF, Pulmonary edema


Contra: Pregnancy, dehydration


Side effects: few in emergency settings,patient will need to urinate

Glucagon

Class: Hormone


Actions:Causes breakdown of glycogen to glucose, elevates blood glucose levels.Increase heart rate and contractile force


Indications:Hypoglycemia


Contra:Hypersensitivity to the drug


Precautions:Check blood sugar levels first


Side effects: Few in emergency settings

Ipratropium(Atrovent)

Class: Anticholinergic,BronchodilatorActions:Bronchodilation, dries respiratory tract secretions


Indications:Bronchial asthma, bronchospasms associated with COPD


Contra:Not to be used as the primary acute treatment of bronchospasms


Side effects: Palpitations, anxiety, headache,Nervousness

Lidocaine(Xylocaine)

Class: Antiarrhythmic


Actions:Suppresses ventricular ectopic activity, Increases v-fib threshold, reducesvelocity of electrical impulse through conductive system Indications:Malignant PVC’s, Vtach, Vfib


Contra:High degree heart blocks, PVC’s in conjunction with bradycardia


Precautions: Dose should be cut in half for anyone over the age of 70 years of age, or whohave liver disease. Dosage should not exceed 300mcg/hour. In cardiac arrest use only bolus therapy.


Side effects: Anxiety, drowsiness, confusion,convulsions, widening QRS complex


Dose: Bolus: 1.0-1.5mg/kg IVP Second dose: 0.50-0.75mg/kg. Drip: 2-4mg/min only ifbolus suppressed rhythm

Lorazepam(Ativan)
