What is an electrical circuit?
The path along which electric charges flow
What does an electric circuit consist of?
An electrical source, connecting wires and one or more electrical component( bulbs and switches)
What is a series circuit?
One that connects an electrical source with it's components one after the other, forming a single loop
What is a parallel circuit?
One that splits into two or more branches with connected electrical components
Disadvantages of a series circuit
A break in any part of the circuit stops the current flowing in the whole circuit
Advantages of a parallel circuit
A break in any branch of the circuit stops the current flowing through that branch only.
What is an open circuit?
When there is a break in the circuit and no current flows
What is a closed circuit?
When there is a continuous path in the circuit
Ammeter
An ammeter measures amperes
Voltmeter
A voltmeter measures volts
What does closing a switch do?
It completes the circuit
What does opening a switch do?
It breaks the circuit
What is a switch used to do?
It is usually used to complete or break circuits
What is electric current?
The rate of flow of electric charge
What is the SI unit for electric current?
The ampere (A).
