Describe how ECG paper works |
Marks the paper with the stylus and uses heat. |
What is standardization of the ECG |
Quality control measures an accurate and reliable recording. The mark is 2 large boxes and 10 small boxes. |
Describe bipolar leads |
Measures flow of electrical current in 2 directions at the same time 1,2,3 produce deflections. |
Describe augmented leads |
The tracing are most commonly arranged in a grind of 4 columns and 3 rows. |
Describe chest leads |
V1-V6 records hearts voltage from front to back. The electrical current traveling through the heart is recorded from inside the heart to a point on the chest wall where electrodes are placed |
Name 3 ECG capabilities |
3-channel recording, interpretative ECG, EMR connectivity, teletransmission |
What are some reasons that an ECG might show artifacts |
Electrical activity picked up by machine include: Electrical activity outside, loose electrodes, unattached leads, muscle movement. |
What should you do if there is artifact? |
Make sure all electrical devices are away from, machine, check leads, wires, wires follow body contour, cover patient with blanket and move machine away from wall. |
What is muscle artifact |
Caused by voluntary or involuntary movement |
What is an alternating current artifact caused by |
Outside electrical activity - check outlet, switch outlets, move away from wall, no dangaling cords, turn off lights |
Describe a holter moiniter |
Portable ambulatory moniter system for continuous recording of electrical activity. Has 5 leads. Used to diagnosis cardiac rhythm, rate and conduction abnormalities. |
Premature atrial contraction |
Beat that comes before next normal beat due. Found in healthy people associated with intake of stimulus |
