Habitat

The place where a living thing lives.

Ecosystem

A community of living things within the environment, including both biotic and abiotic components.

Competitors

Living things that compete with others for available resources such as food and light

Consumers

Living things that obtain their food by eating producers or other consumers

Decomposers

Living things (such as bacteria, fungi and protista) that obtain their energy by decomposing the remains of dead organisms into basic nutrients.

Predators

Living things that kill other living things for food.

Producers

Living things (such as green plants) which make their own food by photosynthesis.

Scavengers

Living things that feed on the dead remains of other organisms.

Abiotic components

The non-living components of an ecosystem. These vary from one ecosystem to another but can include energy and light intensity, water quality, soil quality etc.

The interactions between living things, e.g competition for food and water, competition for living space and shelter, beneficial interactions etc.
