Ground speed sensor for the main backup tactical navigation system. Provides three axis velocities that are used to compute ground speed. Aircraft heading, drift and vertical velocities are calculated.

203.1.5 State the purpose of the following survivability system: Missile warning (AN/AAR-47)
An electronic counter measure unit designed to protect helicopters and low, slow flying aircrafts against surface to air and air to air missiles. Detects missile fired at the aircraft and sends signal to countermeasure dispenser set (CHAFF).

A frequency extension of the radar detecting set. Detects and displays to aircraft pilot information concerning the environment around the aircraft, improving aircraft survivability.

Used to dispense countermeasure materials (metallic chaff, flares, and jammers). The ejected countermeasure materials deceive enemy radars and infrared sensors, which enables the aircraft to evade air to air and surface to air attacks.

Primary flight instruments which presents a plain view of the navigation situation. Operates in two modes HSI and HVR.

Electronic altimeter is a range-tracking radar. It provides continuous measurements of height above land or water. Range of 0 to 5,000 ft with an accuracy of +/- 3ft. Only a range of 0 to 1,000ft is indicated on instrument.
203.1.6 State the purpose of the following flight instrument: Barometric altimeter (Altimeter/Encoder)
Functions as a barometric altimeter and a pressure altitude sensor. Pilot’s encoder sends signals to IFF system and co-pilot’s encoder sends signal to GPS. Operating range is from -1,000 to +50,000ft.
203.1.6 State the purpose of the following flight instrument: Vertical Speed Indicator (VSI)
Indicates vertical speed in thousands of feet per minute. First one thousand feet is marked in one hundred foot increments.

Differential pressure instrument, measuring the difference between pitot and static pressure.

Functions as a navigational aid and to prevent midair collisions. One on top of tail pylon, one on bottom of tail cone. Each light has red (night) and clear (day) lens.

Oil cooled, brushless generators driven by accessory section. Provides ac electrical power to aircraft, rated at 30/45kva, 400Hz at 115/200vac.

Air cooled, brushless generators driven by the Auxiliary Power Unit. It is rated at 20/30kva, 400Hz, at 115/200vac.
203.1.8 Discuss the function of the following electrical power system component: Generator Control Unit (GCU)
Monitors and regulates each generator output. Provides over and under voltage protection, feeder fault protection, and under frequency protection. Under frequency protection is disabled in flight.
203.1.9 Briefly describe and state the purpose of the following ASW system component: Transducer
Consists of five major assemblies:
(1) Nose assembly
(2) Transmitter assembly
(3) Projector/hydrophone assembly
(4) Electronic assembly
(5) Tail assembly
Bottom of nose assembly encloses the storage battery that furnishes power to transmitter assembly. Battery consists of 72 rechargeable lead acid cells arranged in a circular pattern.
203.1.9 Briefly describe and state the purpose of the following ASW system component: Reeling machine
A hydraulic hoist that raises and lowers the transducer. Operates at 3000psi from the utility hydraulic system.
203.1.9 Briefly describe and state the purpose of the following ASW system component: Azimuth and range indicator
(1) Control all primary power to the sonar
(2) Supplies low voltage power to the receiver
(3) Displays target bearing and range information
(4) Provides target range rate (doppler) readout.

(1) Provides timing for the entire sonar set
(2) Generates transmit signals to the transducer
(3) Reformats the demodulated hydrophone sonic signals from the multiplexer for display on the ARI.

A programmable digital processor that provides:
(1) Spectral analysis of passive or active sonobuoys
