What are the safety precautions with the Radome?
Never operate or test radar sys w/pers present. Cause heating of body and poss cataracts.
What is the Flight Compartment's function and where is it located?
Consists of all flight instruments and visual aids needed for flight.

Located in the cockpit
What is the main cabin's function and where is it located?
Where passengers and cargo are located.
Runs from station 234 to 963. It is 60.7 ft long, 115 in wide and 80 in high
Function of Jettison Tailcone?
Where is it?
Provides emergency exit from main cabin through aft entrance door. Attached to aft end of fuselage.
Left and right wing functions.
Port and star wing is primary lift surface on A/C
What is the horizontal stabilizer's function?
Provides stability of the A/C about it's lateral axis. It is longitudinal stability.
Where is the horizontal stabilizer located?
On the tail of A/C. It serves as a base for the elevator.
What is the vertical stabilizer's functions
Provides stability of the A/C about it's vertical axis. It is the directional stability.
Where is the vertical stabilizer located?
On the tail, usually serves as the base to which rudder is attached.
What is the function of flaps?
Gives A/C extra lift, reduces landing speed.
Where are the flaps located?
On aft trailing edge of wings
What are the modes of operation or ctrl of the flaps?
Flaps move aft and down. Operated by hydraulics.
What are safety precautions of flaps?
Personnel can be trapped in moving surfaces
What is function of ailerons/trim tabs?
Control rolling/banking motion of A/C. Trim tabs ctrl rolling/banking in small increments.
Where are aileron/trim tabs located?
On trailing edge of wings.
What is function of rudder/trim tabs? Location?
Ctrl yaw movement of A/C.
Attached to the back of vertical stablizer.
What are functions and location of elevators/trim tabs?
Elevators ctrl pitching motion of A/C and are attached to the horizontal stabilizer.
What are functions of slats and where are they located?
Improves lift at low speeds. Allow A/C to be ctrl at airspeeds below normal landing speed.
They are attached to the leading edge of the wings.
What is operation or ctrl and safety precautions of slats?
When slat is retracted it forms leading edge of wing. When open, a slot is created allowing air to flow through. Hydraulics should be called out to ensure pers are not present. They could be trapped between.
Function/local of strut?
Absorb shock that would otherwise be absorbed by airframe. Wheels are mounted on strut assembly.
Local of wheels?
A/C has dual wheels attached to each shock strut assembly
Function/local and precautions of landing gear doors?
Doors which close flush with fuselage when land gear is extended.
They are hinged to the fuselage around main/nose land gear.
Use belly bypass handle which keeps doors from auto closing.
Function/local/operation or ctrl of hydraulic pump?
Supplies hydro fluid to a system.
L and R engine. 2 alternates in right wheel well.
2 independent hydro sys. Can be stopped by pulling fire shutoff handles
Function/local of hyrdo reservoir?
Stores 3 gallons of fluid. There is site glass to check for air accumulation.
They are in L and R wheelwell. 1 reservoir for each system.
Function/local of hydro accumulators?
provides means for checking initial charging pressure.
2 in each wheelwell.
Function/local/precaution of fluid?
Conducts pressure into work. Keeps sys working.
Local through sys and primary in accumulators.
Do not get on skin or in eyes.
Fore stairs/components function/local/precautions?
Exit from A/C
Port side of A/C under fore enter door
Slide girt bar must be properly stowed before opening the door for normal deplaning. extend hand rails.
aft stairs/components function/local/precautions?
part of tailcone which lowered/extended for exit from A/C.
Check for pers outside of tailcone. Don't manually drop stair
function/local service door
for additional servicing of A/C so not to interfere with pax load.
Star fore enter door, smaller than port enter door.
function/local of cargo door
used to load pallets or loose cargo to main cabin area.
On left side of fuselageaft of fore pax door
operation/ctrl cargo door
inside a/c door ctrl panel in floor by for pax door. Outside a/c lockpin ctrl handle to unlock position and insert bar
precations of cargo door
Don't taxi a/c w/cargo door opened/unlatched. If wind is 40-66 k, open door to 84 degree position only if a/c is parked so that wind direction is against right side of a/c, otherwise don't open
probable indications if the door fails
annuciator light in cockpit if door is not closed and 3 outside indicators...all must be in locked position
Lower baggage hold doors function/local.
Door seals up the lower cargo compartment for flight. They are on lower star side, fore and aft on a/c
Mode of op/ctrl of low bag hold doors
Has round shaped access handle. push in on rt side, left side will protrude, twist handle. push up on door, rtn handle to orig position
Probable indicate if component fails for low bag hold door
annuciator light in cockpit, outside handle will not be flush with door
function/local of air turbine pacs (cabin pressure sys)
Provides AC and pressurization for A/C
2 air pacs, port/star side in tail compartment
