Anorexia Nervosa
An eating disorder characterized by maintenance of an abnormally low body weight, distortions of body image, intense fears of gaining weight, and in females amenorrhea. Two types= Binge-eating/purging type and restricitive type.
Bulimia Nervosa
An eating disorder characterized by recurrent binge eating followed by self-induced purging, accompanied by overconcern with body weight and shape.
Eating disorder
A psychological disorder characterized by disturbed patterns of eating and maladaptive ways of controlling body weight.
Body mass index
A standard measure of overweight and obesity in which height is taken into account in forming the index.
Binge-eating disorder (BED)
A disorder characterized by recurrent eating binges without purging; classified as a potential disorder requiring further study.
Obesity
A condition of excess body fat; generally defined by a BMI of 30 or higher.
Sleep disorders
Persistent or recurrent sleep-related problems that cause distress or impaired functioning.
Dyssomnias
sleep disorders involving disturbances in the amount, quality, or timing of sleep.

Parasomnias
Sleep disorders involving abnormal behaviors or physiological events that occur during sleep or while falling asleep.
Nightmare disorder
A sleep disorder characterized by recurrent awakenings due to frightening nightmares.
Sleep terror disorder
A sleep disorder characterized by recurrent episodes of sleep terror resulting in abrupt awakenings.
Sleepwalking disorder
A sleep disorder involving repeated episodes of sleepwalking.
Biological Approaches
Antianxiety drugs are often used to treat insomnia, including a class or minor tranquilizers called benzodiazepines. (i.e. valium, librium, and ativan)
Psychological Approaches
Cognitve-behavioral techniques. Focuses on lowering states of physiological arousal, modifying maladaptive sleeping habits, and changing dysfunctional throughts.
Stimulus control
Involves changing the enviroment associated with sleeping.
