Astronomy
The study of the moon, stars, and other objects in space.
Axis
An imaginary line that passes through Earth's center and the North & South poles, about which earth rotates.
Rotation
The spinning motion of a planet on its axis. Earth's rotation takes 24 hrs.
Revolution
The movement of an object around another object. Earth's revolution around the sun takes 365.25 days.
Orbit
The path of an object as it revolves around another object.
Calendar
A system of organizing time that defines the beginning, length and divisions of a year.
Summer Solstice
The day of the year when the sun is closest distance to the North or South of the Equator. Longest day of the year.
Winter Solstice
The day of the year when the Sun is the furthest distance from North or South of the Equator. Shortest day of the year.
Autumnal Equinox
The day of the year in fall on which neither hemisphere is tilted toward or away from the sun.
Vernal Equinox
The day of the year in Spring on which neither hemisphere is tilted toward or away from the sun. First day of Spring.
