What was the Alien and Sedition acts?
The Alien act was when John Adams knew that all the people that were not citizens would vote for Thomas Jefferson so he decided to not allow the non-citizens to vote so that he can be president again. He also made the sedition act which was against the Constitution - freedom of press because when there were newspaper authors writing good things about Thomas Jefferson.
Because we went into the war of 1812 what was the results?
The Treaty of Ghent ended, there was really no victor of the battle, U.S. was finally recongized around the world as independent.
What was the XYZ affairs?
the XYZ affairs was when America was trading with British and the French was angry and started to bomb their ships and then John Adams really did not want to have war so he sent three diplomats to France and they sent there ministers that would not reveal their true idnetity so they were called the XYZ. They denied their peace and demanded that if you wanted peace then you would have to bribe them and America had pride so they refused the offer.
What was the Monroe Doctrine?
Separation of spheres for America and Europe, non colonizations of any other country and no interventions.
What was Corrupt Bargain?
It wsa the Presidential election in 1824, there was three major candidates-Andrew JAckson. WIlliam Crawford and John Quincy Adams. You needed major electoral college votes and Andrew Jackson had the most but it was not over 50% so they brought it to the house of Representatives and John Quincy adams won.
What happened in the corrupt bargain?
Henry Clay was a candidate but had the leats votes but he was in the House of Representatives so Adams knew that Jackosn was going to win so he decided to bribe Clay because he wasriends with the house of rep. he said that he would make him secretary of the state if he told the house of rep. people to vote for him so that he would get the most votes and he did so he won.

majority- 1 more than 1/2
ex. 100 people=51 person majority
plorality- getting the most votes regardless of the %
What is Precedent?
Precedent is when there is this example set for the first time, just like George Washington did because he wsa the first president so he had to run office for the first time.

National Debt was when the goverment was in debt for its citizens because of the cost of the warfare and the start of the country.

George Washington said that you should try not to get into foriegn entanglements and avoid political parties.

They wanted the national government to absorb all state debt created during the Rev. war.

Because the south had already paid off all their debts
