used as a locking hitch to back up other hitches and bends.
what is the rolling hitch used for?
use it for passing a stopper on a mooring line when shifting the line from a winch or capstan to a cleat or bitts. it may also be used to secure a taut line back on itself. if tied properly, it holds as long as there is a strain on it.
what is a stopper hitch used for? pros cons?
it will not slide on a slippery spar. this knot is especially useful for bending a line to a larger line whose end is unavailable. however it jams tight on a hard strain.
what is a pelican hook used for?
a hook that can be opened while under strain by knocking away a locking ring which holds it closed; used to provide an instantaneous release
explain the purpose of the screw pin and safety shackle
the purpose of the shackle is to connect to ends together where it is desired to have around edge to prevent chaffing of line or wire. The screw pin shackle is used when securing tht pin is of no great concern. The safety shackle is used when keeping the pin secured is critical like towing evolutions.
what is a carpenter stopper and what is it used for?
a mechanical device consisting of a cover that encloses a sliding wedge within the body that can be opened by knocking away a latch that holds them closed. used for stopping off wire rope.

ensure all suctions more than 50gpm, within 50 ft, and on the same side of the keel must be red tagged.
