11 Cards in this Set

  • Front
  • Back
actinomycin D
Intercalates minor groove of DNA, interfering w/ replication and transcription.
Anticancer
5-fluorouracil
Prevents synthesis of thymine bases, therefore inhibiting DNA replication. Arrests cell cycle in S phase. Anticancer drug.
Zidovudine (AZT)
Thymidine analog. Blocks reverse transcriptase activity and inhibits mitochondrial DNA replication. Antiviral drug (HIV)
Rifampin
Inhibits prokaryotic RNA polymerase. Antibiotic (tuberculosis)
Tamoxifen
Estrogen antagonist. Blocks estrogen receptors, preventing their transcription activating mechanisms. Anticancer (breast)
Streptomycin
Binds small (30S) ribosomal subunit in bacteria, blocking formation of initiation complex for translation. Antibiotic.
Tetracyclin
Binds small (30S) ribosomal subunit in bacteria, preventing binding of aa-tRNAs. Antibiotic.
Chloramphenicol
Inhibits peptidyltransferase activity of large (50S) subunit in bacterial ribosomes. Antibiotic.
Erythromycin
Binds large (50S) ribosomal subunits in bacteria, preventing translocation along mRNA. Antibiotic.
Etoposide
Inhibits eukaryotic type II topoisomerase, thus preventing unwinding of chromatin and arrest of mitosis. Anticancer.
Sertraline hydrochloride
(Zoloft)
Selective serotonin uptake inhibitor (SSRI). Antidepressant.
