Xanax
CLASS: Triazolo Benzodiazepines.
Generic name: Alprazolam.
Type: Anti anxiety.
Nursing implications:Monitor CBC and liver and renal fx periodically, may cause decreased hematocrit and neutropenia
Take: With or without food. Take each dose with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, or break the extended-release form Alprazolam (Xanax XR).Swallow Whole.
Side Effects: Clumsiness, Sleepiness, Drowsiness, Dizziness, Depression, Nausea, Vomiting, Diarrhea / Constipation, Difficulty urinating, Vivid dreams, Headache, Dry mouth, Decreased sex drive, and/or changes in behavior.

Docusate Soduim
Common Name

Nursing Implications:May discolor urine or feces; monitor I & O

Take this medication with a full glass of water. Do not crush, chew, break, or open a docusate capsule. Swallow the pill whole
Side Effects:Diarrhoea
Irritation of the back passage
Low blood potassium level (hypokalaemia)
Over stimulation of the gut wall leading to a non-functioning large bowel (atonic colon)

Nursing Implications:Always take this laxative with plenty of water.
Side Effects: abdominal pain, abdominal distension, dysgeusia, diarrhoea, abdominal pain upper, gastrointestinal obstruction, condition aggravated, constipation, swelling face, rash, local swelling.
Nursing Implications:Do not use for more than 2 weeks without advice from your prescriber or health care professional. It can take 2—4 days to have a bowel movement and to experience improvement in constipation. See your healthcare professional for any changes in bowel habits, including constipation, that are severe or last longer than three weeks. Always take this laxative with plenty of water.
