How is a oxbow lake formed

A meander eroding the outside bends until it has eroded fully and the river takes its shortest course. Deposition eventually cuts off the meander.

How is a waterfalls formed?

The river flows over hard rock followed by soft rock. The soft rock erodes far faster creating a step, until it has eroded enough for the hard rock to no longer support itself, it collapses and the rocks fall into the plunge pool eroding more soft rock through abrasion. The hard rock has a large undercut.
