(Both Alpha and Beta properties) |
|
Dopamine Hydrochloride
Action |
Low/Medium doses: Selectively dilates blood vessels supplying brain, kidneys, heart, GI tract
Med/High: Increases CO by increasing contractility and Stroke Volume thereby increasing BP High: Vasoconstriction and increased HR |
|
Dopamine Hydrochloride
Onset/Duration |
Onset= <5 minutes
Duration= appx 10 minutes after drip is stopped |
|
Dopamine Hydrochloride
Indications |
Discomfort/Pain of ? cardiac origin with associated shock (S-126, S-138)
Shock: Normovolemic (anaphylactic, neruogenic, septic) (S-138, S-122) Bradycardia (after max Atropine or initiation of TCP) (S-127) |

|
Dopamine Hydrochloride
Side Effects |
At high infusion rates, hypertension and extreme vasoconstriction may occur
At low infusion rates, hypotension may occur Tachyarrythmias/ palpations Increased myocardial 02 demand |
|
Dopamine Hydrochloride
Special Info "INTRO" Conc: 400mg in 250 ml NS= 1,600 mcg/ ml |
In assessing the effectiveness of Dopamine administration
Check the blood pressure or heart rate Never as primary IV, always run as piggy back To get a quick estimate of dose: To convert mcg/kg/min to actual drops per minute, multiply desired mcgxkgx0.39 To get the 10 mcg/kg/min drip rate, take the weight in pounds, drop the last number and subtract 10% then multiply by 2 Receiving hospital must know if infiltration occurs by discontinuing the IV, and circling infiltrated area. Optimal blood pressure is equal or greater the 90 but do not exceed 120 systolic |
