external branch of superior laryngeal nerve (CN X); it is the only muscle that tenses the vocal fold - all other muscles are innervated by the recurrent laryngeal nerve (also CN X)

What are the causes and symptoms of Horner's syndrome?

drooping eyelid (ptosis) and constriction of pupil (miosis), decreased sweating (anhidrosis), flusing on the face, problem with sympathetic nervous system. Symptoms are ipsilateral. Caused by trauma to the base of neck, cervical plexus block, thyroid surgery.
