|
1874: Hours in textile factories reduced from 60 hours a week to 56 and a half for women and young people.
The age limit for half-time employment for children was raised to 10 years and full-time to 14. 1878: Consolidated all previous legislation. |

1876. Children between 10 and 14 could only leave school if they had a certificate indicating minimum levels of attainment.
Parliamentary grants of money for voluntary schools could exceed what the schools themselves had raised. |

Employers and Workmen Act
|
1876. Replaced the Master and Servant Act with more sensitive names implying greater equality. Before the Act, employees could be sued in the Criminal Courts as well as the Civil Courts, but this didn't apply to all employers. All cases regarding conditions of employment and possible breach of contract would be dealt with in the Criminal Courts.

Licensing Act
|
1874. Amended Bruce's Licensing Act. Drinking time was increased by 30 minutes, police rights to search were reduced and magistrates' discretion on interfering with hours of opening were removed.
