List the viscera that make up the digestive system.
Oral Cavity - Oropharynx - Laryngopharynx - Esophagus - Stomach - Duodenum - Jejunum
- Ileum -Cecum -Ascending Colon -Transverse Colon -Descending Colon -Sigmoid Colon - Rectum -Anus
Describe, in sequence, the peritoneal relationships of abdominal organs.
Retroperitoneal Organs: Kidneys/Adrenal Glands Bladder/Ureter
Aorta
IVC
Esophagus (part of it) Rectum
Uterus
Head and neck of Pancreas (tail in intraperitoneal) Duodenum (except the first segment closest to stomach) Ascending colon
Descending colon
[SADPUCKER pneumonic: Suprarenal glands (adrenal glands), Aorta, Duodenum, Pancreas, Ureters, Colon, Kidneys, Esophagus, Rectum]

Intraperitoneal Organs: The rest
Describe the major specializations of the peritoneum and the peritoneal cavity including the omenta, ligaments, mesenteries, and sacs.
Omenta are a form of mesentery (double fold of reflected peritoneum)
Foregut ventral mesentery: Falciform ligament and lesser omentum (liver is in between the two) Foregut dorsal mesentery: greater omentum
Midgut dorsal mesentery: The Mesentery, transverse mesocolon, mesoappendix
Hindgut dorsal mesentery: transverse mesocolon, sigmoid mesocolon

Abdominal ligaments are also composed of peritoneum: Falciform ligament, hepatoduodenal ligament + hepatogastric ligament (both compose the lesser omentum)

Sacs are 'open' areas created by peritoneum: lesser sac (posterior to lesser omentum, opening is epiploic foramen), greater sac (the cavity in the abdomen inside the peritoneum but not including the lesser sac...basically every other space besides the lesser sac)
Name the region of the gut and the specific gastrointestinal organs supplied by each of the three unpaired arteries of the abdominal aorta.
Name the region of the gut and the specific gastrointestinal organs supplied by each of the three unpaired arteries of the abdominal aorta.
Name the region of the gut and the specific gastrointestinal organs supplied by the vagus nerve and the pelvic splanchnic nerves.
Foregut: Preganglionic sympathetic fibers in greater Splanchnic nerve, Preganglionic parasympathetic fibers in Vagus nerve

Midgut: Pregang symp. fibers in lesser and least Splanchnic nerve, Pregang. parasymp. fibers in
Vagus

Hindgut: Pregang. symp in lumbar Splanchnic nerve, Pregang parasymp. in pelvic Splanchnic nerves
Foregut: Preganglionic sympathetic fibers in greater Splanchnic nerve, Preganglionic parasympathetic fibers in Vagus nerve

Midgut: Pregang symp. fibers in lesser and least Splanchnic nerve, Pregang. parasymp. fibers in
Vagus
Hindgut: Pregang. symp in lumbar Splanchnic nerve, Pregang parasymp. in pelvic Splanchnic nerves
Sympathetic innervation of the digestive tract occurs via the greater splanchnic nerve (foregut), the lower and least splanchnic nerves (midgut), and the lumbar splanchnic nerve (hindgut). Sympathetic splanchnic nerves synapse in prevertebral ganglia in aortic plexuses. Postganglionic sympathetic nerves innervate the smooth muscles and glands of the GI tract.
