Diffusion |
Diffusion is the movement of substances from a high concentration to a low concentration along a concentration gradient until equilibrium is reached. |
|
Facilitated Diffusion |
Facilitated Diffusion is still passive but involves channel proteins or carrier proteins either if the particle is charged or is too large to go through the phospholipid bilayer. |
|
Transmembrane Protein Carrier |
A protein that spans the membrane. It interacts with a molecule e.g. glucose and changes shape to transport the molecule across the membrane. |
|
Transmembrane Proteins Pores |
A protein that spans the phospholipid membrane, lined with hydrophilic amino acids - forming a channel of water through the protein e.g. aquaporins. |
|
Factors Affecting Diffusion |
-Temperature -Diffusion distance -Surface Area -Size of diffusing molecules -Concentration gradient |
