Hue
Name of a color; red, green, etc.
Primary Colors
Blue, red, and yellow; the only colors that cannot be mixed by adding two or more hues together.
Secondary Colors
Hues created by mixing the primary colors; orange, violet, and green
Neutral Colors
Black and white.
Complimentary Colors
Directly opposite colors on the color wheel.
Analogous Colors
Adjacent colors on the color wheel.
Value
Degree of lightness and darkness of a hue
Shade
Black added to darken a hue
Tint
White added to lighten a hue
Monochromatic
one hue plus black or white
Intensity
Degree if purity/brightness of a hue. Adding a complimentary color will neutralize a hue, creating a tone.
Warm colors
colors that feel warm, red, orange, yellow; 1/2 of the color wheel= yellow through red-violet; warm colors advance/come forward; low notes
Cool colors
colors that feel cool; blue, green, violet; 1/2 of the color wheel= yellow-green through violet; cool colors recede/ go back; high notes
