Relative atomic mass

The relative atomic mass, Ar is the weighted mean mass of an atom compared with 1/12th of the mass of an atom of carbon-12

Relative isotopic mass

The relative isotopic mass is the mass of an atom of an isotope compared with the mass of 1/12th an atom of carbon-12

Ionic bond

Ionic bonding is the electrostatic attraction between positive and negative ions. It holds together cations and anion in ionic compound.

Covalent bond

Covalent bonding is the strong electrostatic attraction between a shared pair of electrons and the nuclei of the bonded atom.

Covalant bonding occurs between :

-Non-metallic elements

-Compound of non metallic elements

-polyatomic ions

Hydeogen bond

A strong dipole-dipole interaction between an electron deficient hydrogen atom of -NH, -OH or HF on one molecule and a lome pair of electrons on hoghly electronegative atom containing N, O or Fon diffrent molecule

First ionisation energy

The energy required to remove one electron from each atom in one mole of gaseous atoms of an element to form one mole of gaseous 1+ ions.

Group

A vertical column in the periodic table. Elements in a group have similar chemical properties and their atoms have the same number of outershell electrons

Induced dipole-dipole interaction

Attractive forces between iduced dipole in diffrent molecules ; also called london forces

Standard state

The physical state of a substamce under stamdard conditions of 100kpa and stated tempreture of 298k

Avagadros constant

6.02×10^2 the number of atoms per mole of carbon

Activation energy

The minimum amount of energy required to start a reaction by breaking the bonds
