Why is David ( a King of Israel) considered to be important in the bible?
Jesus was often called "the son of David"

this was because (a) he descended from David by his mothers line)

(b) Jesus will be King over Israel and the world and his throne was called "Davids throne")

David wrote a significant portion of the Bible in praise songs (psalms), many of which told details in prophecy about Jesus who was to come
(e.g. Psalms 8,16,22,40,69, 110 - you can see at least two of these psalms referred to in Acts 2 & 3 about David foretelling Jesus life)
Why did God make a promise to David in 2 Samuel chapter 7?
David was special in Gods heart, and in the same way God made promises to his ancestor Abraham about Jesus coming and a reward for Abraham, God did this for David too

The reasons and the promise are found in 2 Samuel 7 vv 1 - 24

2 Samuel 7 refers to Jesus coming who sit on Davids throne (v13,16)
What are the main points of the Promise?
Christ will descend from David

But God would be his Father

He would inherit David's position as king forever
(" he would reign on his throne forever")
Wasn't this all fulfilled by Solomon, David's son who sat on his throne and brought peace and prosperity?
2 Samuel 7 v 12 indicates that the Son would be born after David, and the eternal nature of the promises were never fulfilled by Solomon - in fact, God took action against late in his life for his behaviour which changed the monarchy.

It wasnt fulfilled in Solomon.
