-Plotter
What is Air Operations Officer is responsible for?
Responsible to the Operations Officer for coordination of all matters pertaining to the flight operations, the proper functioning of the CATCC and shall determine the type of approach and required degree of control.
What is the Assistant Air Operations Officer responsible for?
To assist the Air Operations Officer of his duties and responsibilities.
What is the Air Operations Supervisor responsible for?
Responsible for ensuring the correct display of all information in air operations and to coordinate as necessary all bingo/ divert aircraft with the appropriate air traffic control authorities and ship board entities
What is the Land/Launch Record Keeper responsible for?
Responsible for updating the ISIS as necessary to ensure that accurate data for each aircraft in a launch/recovery is available.
What is the Plotter responsible for?
Responsible for updating the near land and divert field bearing and distance, displaying the weather for the ship and divert fields, and for submitting a pre-launch brief two and half hours prior to each recovery
What is CCA responsible for?
CCA is responsible for operational control of aircraft departing the ship and recovery of inbound aircraft after a mission is complete.
What are the four positions that may be manned in CCA during flight operations?
-Departure Control
-Marshal Control
-Approach Control
-Final Control
Departure Control will be manned in CCA during what cases?
Case I, II and III
Marshall Control will be manned in CCA during what cases?
Case I, II and III
Approach Control will be manned in CCA during what cases?
Case II and III
Final Control will be manned in CCA during what cases?
Case III
Describe what is Case I.
When it is anticipated that flights will not encounter instrument conditions during daytime departures, recoveries, and the ceilings and visibility in the carrier control zone are no lower than 3,000 feet and 5 nm respectively.
Describe what is Case II.
When it is anticipated that flights may encounter instrument conditions during a daytime departure or recovery and the ceiling and visibility in the carrier control zone are no lower than 1,000 feet and 5 nm.
Describe what is Case III
When is is anticipated that flights will encounter instrument conditions during a departure or recovery, because the ceiling or visiblity in the carrier control zone is below 1,000 feet or 5 nm respectively; or a nighttime departure or recovery (30mins after sunset and 30 minutes before sunrise)
What is the CDC's Mission?
To keep the commanding officer apprised of the overall tactical situation and recommend courses of action as appropriate.
How does CDC accomplishes it's Mission?
By collecting, processing, displaying, evaluating, and disseminating tactical information in a timely fashion.
What is CDC responsible for?
CDC is vested with tactical decision making responsibility with respect with to ship's defensive systems and makes recommendations to warfare commanders for overall battle group defense.
What is Strike Operations job?
Coordinate with all warfare commanders to establish a viable air plan for battle group functions.
Strike Operations coordinate with who during Air Operations and why?
Air Operations, CDC and Air Department to ensure that air sorties are managed to meet the requirements dictated by combined warfare commanders.
How does Strike Operations support the Air Wing?
Strike Operations aids in weaponeering of ordance (i.e. determines what ordnance will best be employed to destroy either individual or specific sets of targets.
How does CVIC support the battle group's intelligence requirements?
By supplying the commanding officer, embarked staffs, and the air wing with operational, technical, and strike planning information.
How is CVIC able to accomplish its ability to supply information to key personnel?
With a variety of intelligence related systems located in CVIC and in the Supplement Plot (SUPPLOT) spaces. These systems provide operational intelligence research data, and report on the collection efforts of the air wing aircraft.
What are the three divisions that make up CVIC?
-OZ
-OS
-OP
What is the responsibility of the personnel in OZ Division?
They're responsible for the day to day operations of CVIC and SUPPLOT.
What rates and type of officers work in OZ Division?
-Intelligence Officers
-Intelligence Specialists (IS)
-Electronics Technicians (ET)
-Interior Communications Technicians (IC)
What is OS Division responsible for?
OS Division is responsible for providing special intelligence communications to the warfare commanders both internal and external to the battle group.
What rates typically make up OS Division?
OS Division is typically made up of Cryptologic Specialists.
What is OP Division's job?
They provide photographic support to the ship, air wing, and embarked staff.
Typically how many photo labs would OP division have on a CVN and what is each lab's job?
There are two photo labs on a typical CVN. The main photo lab supports administrative and offical events. THe CVIC photo lab processes hand-held photography from aircrew as well as tactical airborne reconnaissance pod system (TARPS) film.
What are the two radars used on a CVN?
-AN/SPN 41 (ILM)
-AN/SPN 46 (PALS)
What is EMCON and what does it do?
Electronic Emission Control (EMCON) imposes restrictions on the use of electronic systems to deny information to the enemy for determining the location of the carrier.
What is "99" Transmission?
A broadcast of information of collective interest to all aircraft on a particular radio frequency.
What is the Air Plan?
The schedule of flight operations for a 24 hour period.
What is Alpha Strike?
A tactical operation in which the majority of air wing aircraft participate in an integrated strike against ground targets.
