What is the respiratory system?
The respiratory system introduces oxygen into the body from the air through the nose. Nest it goes into the throat down the windpipe through one to two broncial tubes and into lungs. The lungs filter out oxygetn and transfer oxygen to the bloodstream. Carbon dioxide is removed from the blood an is exhaled along with other gases.
What is the circulatory system?
It is a system that is a vast array of blood vessels that deliver oxygen-rich blood to the body's cells and carry waste-filled blood away fro these cells. A powerful heart drives the system.
The heart
The heart has a left and right side. Each side has an upper portion (atrium) and lower portion (ventricle).
How does the heart contract?
Oxygen-poor blood goes from the rightr ventricle, through the lungs to the left atrium. Oxygen-rich blood goes from the left ventricle, through the body and back to the right atrium.
How does the heart relax?
Oxygen rich blood enters the left atrium from the lungs. Oxygen poor blood enters the right atruim from the body.
Blood Vessels
Arteries are strong tubes that carry blood away from the heart. Arteries branch into increasingly smaller and smaller vessesls and finally into very tiny capillaris that deliver oxygen to individual cells. At the cell level, the oher capillaries start to carry oxygen poor carbon dioxide rich blood away from the cells. These capillaries start to carry oxygen poor carbon dioxide rich blood away from the cells. These capillaries start to carry oxygen poor carbon dioxide rich blood away from the cells. These capillaries join into larger and larger veins and finally back to the heart.
Blood
The plasma in blood transports the red blood cells, white blood cells, and platelets throughout the body. Red blood cells carry oxygen. White blood cells are a part of the immune system. Platelets aid clotting.
