I Olfactory nerve test?
Asked to smell substances oil of cloves & vanilla & identify

Peripheral vision tested and vison with eye chart. Fundus of eye viewed with ophthalmoscope.

Pupils are examined for size shape and equality. Penlight used to test reflex? Test the ability to follow an object with eyes.
IV Trochlear Nerve testing?
Pupils are examined for size shape and equality. Penlight used to test reflex? Test the ability to follow an object with eyes.
V Trigeminal nerve testing?
Test sensation of pain, touch temperature. Test with hot, cold objects safety pin. Corneal reflex is tested with wisp of cotton. Asked to clench his teeth, open mouth against resistance and move jaw side to side.
VI Abducens nerve testing?
Pupils are examined for size shape and equality. Penlight used to test reflex? Test the ability to follow an object with eyes.
VII Facial nerve testing?
Anterior 2/3 of tongue is tested for the ability to taste sweet, sour,& bitter substances. Symmetry of face is checked. Asked to smile, whistle, close eyes ect.. Tearing assessed with ammonia fumes.
VIII Vestibulocochlear nerve testing?
Check hearing with a tuning fork. Hearing checked by air & bone conduction.
IX Glossopharyngeal nerve testing?
Postion of uvula is checked. Gag & swallowing reflexes are checked. Asked to speak & cough. Posterior 1/3 of tongue may be tested for taste.
X Vagus nerve testing?
Postion of uvula is checked. Gag & swallowing reflexes are checked. Asked to speak & cough. Posterior 1/3 of tongue may be tested for taste.
XI Accessory nerve testing?
Sternocleidomastoid and trapezius muscles are checked for strength. Asked to rotate head & shoulders against restistance.
XII Hypoglossal nerve testing.
Asked to protrude & retract tongue, any deviations in position is noted
