Main jobs of the Control Unit
Controls the hardware to make sure it is fulfilling the instructions, controls input and output data so that signals are not sent to the wrong place at the wrong time and controls the flow cycle of the CPU.
Immediate Access Store
IAS stores read data and programs because the Backing Storage is too slow to do it directly.
Arithmetic Logic Unit
Made up of the Arithmetic part - does calculations, and the logic part - deals with anything logical and comparisons.
Clock Speed
How quickly the CPU can complete instructions, measured in cycles per second, or Hertz.
Number of Cores
To improve the clock speed of the CPU, more CPUs are added to share the work and therefore make it faster.
