Cornea retains water.
Swells. Due to lack of water. |
Edema
Additional Curves on back surface of lens that surround optical zone
Helps tailor contact lens t individual patient. Cornea steeper in center. Flattens toward periphery. |
Peripheral Curves
Size of lens when measured from edge to edge at widest point.
Overall Diameter
Rigid Lens OAD
8.5-9.5 mm
Hydrogel lens
11.0-15.0 mm

Way frame front follows contour of face.
Protrudes slightly at nose Farther back at temples |
Face Form
how do you assess face form?
take frame with temples extended.
Place ruler against back of frame front...from outside edge of one eyewire to outside edge of other eyewire. ruler is straight. Amount of curve to frame will show amount of face form. |
Bridge of frame sits substantially forward of hinge on frame front.
High degree of face form on glasses.
Picture representation of pressure points between eyeglass frame and patient head.
Equalize pressure over BRIDGE and Widest Part of head on each side. |
Fitting Triangle
Frame Selection
1. Good Frame Fit=width of frame equal to width of patients face.
2. Longer face=greater vertical depth of frame. Shorter Face=Smaller vertical depth. 3. Bridge should rest flat on sides of nose so that it distributes frame weight. 4. Temples extend over ear and beyond to balance weight of frame front 5. Shape to fit contour of head. Minimize round face by fitting with frame of opposite shape. 6. Balance features of face. 7. Upper eyewire should contour to shape of eyebrows. |
Give frame dimension in consistent manner, regardless of frame shape
Boxing System.
Widest horizontal dimension
Measured tips of eyewires |
"A" Eyesize
Most vertical dimensions of lens opening.
Measured from tips of eyewire grooves |
"B" Eyesize
Largest dimension thru lens
Determines what lens blanks to use |
ED or Effective Diameter
Bridge Size
distance seperating two lens. Measured where distance between lens is smallest. |
DBL or Distance Between Lens
size of CL when measured from edge to edge at widest point
