Geography as it relates to history
China could not trade as much because they were more secluded. Mesopotamia traded more because they had access to the fertile crescent

Land was more fertile and they were able to move and trade things easily when utilizing the river
Social classes in ancient civilization
1) priests, nobles and warriors.
2) Merchants and artisans

4) slaves- mostly women and children

Hammurabi did not actually write the laws himself, he only collected them.

The laws limited personal vengeance and encouraged social order/ stability
Hammurabi's code (criminal law)
Deals with offenses against others such as burglary, assault or murder. "An eye for an eye, a life for a life"
Hammurabi's code (civil law)
Deals with private matters such as business, contracts, taxes, marriage, divorce and property inheritance.

Crossroads for trade and culture, developed civilizations. (Mesopotamia was located here)

First form of writing- cuneiform (used reed pens and clay, contributed to the later advances in learning
