World English
A term associated with English use in countries that were colonised from the early 17th century onwards. The language of the dominant party was adopted in these colonies and new standardised forms arose such as Singapore English and Indian English. This suggests English is the superior form, therefore, other languages lose prestige. Can have negative associations as the language of the oppressor.
Global English
A term used to cover the scope of English as a globally spoken form of communication. This implies there is one single form of English when in reality, there are many different varieties globally.
International English
A term used to describe English usage in it's international context - the language of politics, business, trade or air traffic control. Some countries object to the use of English.
