Born to Belonging: What is the main idea of this chapter?
Being white is being born into the dominant group, the race that belongs. It is being born with a system in place that is set to automaticallybenefit you.
Being white comes with privileges. These privilegescome from the way the system is set up from the past, and is still on-going. Itis present from the start, and continues through education and work. It ispresent in everyday life, even if it is not immediately obvious. The privilege isthe opposite of minority discrimination, and white people take being white forgranted out of ignorance.
It is very easy to deny white privilege when you’rewhite. Sometimes it is out of ignorance, but the majority of the time it is outof denial.
