What is the theory of planned behaviour
The idea that all actions are under out control and that peoples perceptions of control is very important in out understanding of their behaviour. Your attitude, subjective norm and perceived behavioural control lead to an intention which then leads to the behaviour.
Attitude
Beliefs about the behaviour
Subjective norm
What does your peer group think/do
Perceived Behavioural Control
Do you feel that you are in control of the behaviour
Applications of TPB
We can alter the incidence of the behaviour by altering peoples beliefs, attitudes and understanding of social norms and their perception of whether they are in control of their behaviour. Putting schemes in to provide an individual with support to resist the behaviour in the first place could reduce the incidences of such behaviours.
