Radial nerve
Elbow ext assisted via gravity, supination and shoulder ER
Supination via biceps
Wrist extension via tenders action of finger flexion (if the IF held extended wrist unable to extend)
Finger extension via tenders action of wrist flexors
Thumb extension via assistance from APB (slip to EPL tendon)
Median nerve
-Pronation via brachioradialis
From supination with gravity assisted shoulder IR can substitute
-Wrist flexion via FCU - abduct into ulnar deviation
-Finger flexion compreimised except action of ulnar FDP, finger flexion achieved passively with tendoesis of wrist extension
-Thumb IPJ flexion achieved by pull of APL from thumb abduction and wrist extension - test thumb with wrist in neutral and thumb adducted
-Palmar abduction make sure thumb perpendicular to IF to avoid substitution of APL
-Partial thumb opp achieved with deep head of FPB and adductor pollicis will result in the flexed thumb pulp in contact with the lateral LF
-MCPJ Flexion at IF and MF via intrinsics
-IPJ ext at IF and MF weak will be present if interossei still in tact
Ulnar nerve
-Thumb adduction via median APB with slight palmar abduction
Thumb adduction held by APB with slight flexion via FPL (look for APB, EPL, FPL co-contraction)
-Finger abduction via EDC if MCPJ extended
Test abduction of LF in neutral MCPj extension
-Finger adduction via finger flexors if MCPj flexion allowed
-MCPJ flexion via lumbrical at IF and MF, RF and LF achieved only with addition of IPJ flexion
-IPJ extension weak in IF and MF, substitution at RF and LF achieved via EDC if MCPj hyperextension blocked
