Claire Kane
Claire is drowning in the helplessness of her marriage. She is loosing her since of self and identity. She identifies with Susan, the young dead girl, because she realizes that Stuart treats her the way that he treated Susan's dead body.
Stuart Kane
Stuart is violent and demanding. Stuart and his friends tie the body up to a tree and continue to fish and camp there, without realizing how crazy that is. Stuart substitutes sex for love and caring, he does what he wants and what will benefit him, he doesn't care about anyone else. Stuart says, "This marriage will end in violence." Stuart is pushing her to another melt down, like a previous one she has had. He also kicks in the bedroom door and throws her to the floor when she wont sleep with him.
