Pheremones
External chemicals/hormones that are secreted by animals and humans to signal to another member of the same species to pass a message i.e. pissing on a territory(territoriality) or sexual receptivity(Fertility)
Signal Detection theory
The detection of a stimulus requires discriminating it from background noise and deciding whether it is present or not; this results in a gain or a loss.
Difference threshold
Smallest increase or decrease in a physical stimulus that is require to produce the "just noticeable difference" in sensation that is detectable 50% of the time. Weber's law which states that it's proportional to the initial stimulus.
