Bacterial sepsis workup
Blood, urine cultures; diagnostic imaging of the chest and abdomen/pelvis; cardiac studies such as ECG and troponin, as indicated; measurement of biomarkers of sepsis as procalcitonin levels; interventions such as paracentesis, thoracentesis, lumbar puncture, or aspiration of an abscess, as clinically indicated
Symptoms of sepsis
Pts with nonspecific symptoms are usually acutely ill with fever, with or without shaking chills. Mental status may be impaired in the setting of fever or hypoperfusion. Pts with bacteremia from any source often display an increased breathing rate resulting in respiratory alkalosis. The skin of pts with sepsis may be warm or cold, depending on adequacy of organ and skin perfusion.
Chief source of tension headache
The chief souce is thought to be tight muscles that irritate nerves in the head and neck
