Mating

External fertilization
A sperm and egg cell unite outside the bodies of the parents
External= outside
4 requirements for cell division
-must be enough nutrients
-warm enough temperature
-enough moisture
-embryo must be protected
Internal fertilization
Sperm cells are deposited inside the female's body where they meet an egg cell
Internal= inside
Advantage of internal fertilization
More offspring survive because they are protected
Disadvantage of internal fertilization
Requires more energy
2 advantages of external fertilization
-little energy is required to find a mate
-large numbers of offspring are produced
