Chapter 6
-lightning= is a large static charge
-static discharge is a transfer of charge between two objects
-lightning= electric charges move through the air and collide with atoms and molecules
= generates powerful sound waves
- insulators= a material in which electron are not able to move easily
-lightning= generates powerful sound waves-
insulators= a material in which electron are not able to move easily
- conductors= a material in which electrons are able to move easily
-Electric current= net movement of electric charges in a single direction
-voltage differance= measured in volts
- closed path that electricity flows throw is a circuit
- broken circuit means the current of energy or electricity doesn't flow
- batteries holds the volts
They eletrilite in a dry cell battery is the form of a moist paste
-in a dry cell battery there is a carbon rod and a zinc container
- wet cell battery = contains two plates made of different metals or metallic compounds in a conducting solution
- wet cell batteries contain several wet cells connected together
- series cucuit= the current has only one loop to flow through
- series circuits are found in Christmas lights and some flash lights
- parallel circuit have several advantages
- an electrical fuse contains a small piece of metal that melts if the current becomes too high
- to many things at use at the same to e can cause a fuse in the fuse box
- The unit for power is watt (w)
- thew unit for electric power is expressed in kilowatts (kW)
- one kilowatt equals 1,000 watts
- electrical energy (in kW)
- Electrical power (in kW) × time (in h)
