arterial insufficiency
it occurs secondary to inadequate circulation of oxygenated blood.
venous insufficiency
it occurs secondary to impaired functioning of the venous system resulting in inadequate circulation and tissue damage.
pressure
it results from sustained pressure on tissue at levels greater than that of capillary pressure. localized ischemia and tissue necrosis due to pressure.
shear forces
results from rubbing of the skin on surfaces
neuropathy
secondary complication from ischemia and neuropathy. usually from diabetes but can be from any peripheral neuropathy
mobility
immobile individuals are at more risk for pressure ulcers.
age
the elderly are usually less mobile and malnourished, and may have other comorbidities contributing to ulcers
