TV = Tidal Volume
IRV = Inspiratory Reserve Volume
the amount of air forcefully inhaled after a normal TV inspiration
ERV = Expiratory Reserve Volume
the amount of air forcefully exhaled after a normal tidal volume expiration
RV = Residual Volume
the amount of air remaining in the lungs after a forced expiration
TLC = Total Lung Capacity
TV + IRV + ERV + RV; maximum amount of air contained in the lungs after a maximum inspiratory effect
VC = Vital Capacity
TV + IRV + ERV; maximum amount of air that can be expired after a maximum inspiratory effect
IC = Inspiratory Capacity
TV + IRV; maximum amount of air that can be inspired after a normal TV expiration
FRC = Functional Residual Capacity
ERV + RV; volume of air remaining after a normal TV expiration
