Key words
peace- the absence of conflict and war, which leads to happiness and harmony
justice- is bringing about what is right and fair, according to the law, or making up for a wrong doing
forgiveness- is showing compassion and mercy and pardoning someone for a wrong doing
reconciliation- restoring friendly relationships after conflict
Violent protest and terrorism
Many Christians and Jews believe that protesting to achieve what is right is acceptable as long a violence is not used
Most Christians and Jews believe terrorism is wrong as it angers innocent people. They prefer more peaceful way of resolving issues .
Reasons for war
greed- selfish desire for something
Self defence- acting to prevent harm to yourself or others
Retaliation- deliberately harming someone as a response to them harming you
Nuclear war and weapons of mass destruction
Nuclear weapons work by a nuclear reaction. They devastate huge areas and kill large numbers of people.
Biological weapons use live organisms to cause disease or death
Chemical weapons use chemicals to harm humans and destroy the natural environment
The just war
A just war is a war which meets internationally accepted criteria for fairness

S- reasonable chance of SUCCESS
Holy war and religion as a cause of violence
A holy war is fighting for a religious cause or God, controlled by a religious leader.
Most Christians today do not respond violently to an attack on their faith
Most Jews in the Uk do not respond violently to an attack on their faith, but may protest peacefully against anti-semitism
Pacifisms and peacemaking
Pacifism- the belief of people who refuse to take part in war and any other form of violence
Peacemaking- is the action of trying to establish peace, and a peacemaker is someone who works to establish peace in the world or a certain part of it.
Religious responses to victims of war
Victims of war include those directly involved in the fighting, their families and dependents, and refugees whose homes and societies have been destroyed.
