What energy does the sun give out?
Sunlight contains rays if energy called Ultra Violet radiation (UVA, UVB, UVC) visible light and infra red radiation,
UVA UVB UVC
Ultraviolet C Is reflected by the atmosphere
Ultraviolet B some is absorbed by the atmosphere (can cause damage to DNA, tanning, burning and ageing)
Ultraviolet A penetrates into the skins surface, damaging the DNA (light tanning and deep penetration can cause cancer)
The ozone layer O3
A thin layer of gas in the Earths atmosphere.
Absorbs some radiation from the sun before it can reach the earth
Without it the amount of radiation reaching earth would be harmful to living organisms, especially animals, due to cell damage
