Internal
Refers to the extent to which a measure is consistent within itself
External
Produces same results each time the test is carried out
Assessing internal reliability- split half method
Involves splitting a test into two and having the same ppt doing both halves of the test.
If two halves of the test provide similar results this would suggest the test has internal reliability.
Ways to improve reliability
•When possible take more than one measurement from each ppts
•Pilot study-check for issues
•Standardise the way in which researchers collect data (inter rater reliability)
