* Infant begins to SEPARATE FROM CAREGIVER BY CRAWLING
Practicing
9 to 14 months
* Infant crawls and walks freely, explores actively & becomes distant from mother
Rapprochement
14 to 24 months
* Infant DESIRES TO BE INDEPENDENT
* Infant MOVED AWAY FROM MOTHER BUT RETURNS REGULARLY to make sure his/her mother is still there
Object constancy
After 24 months
* Infant has the CAPACITY TO RECALL MOTHER DESPITE ABSENCE
* Child sees mother as a SEPARATE INDIVIDUAL from themselves
