Checks and Balances

Limited Government
'The government is best that governs least'. Limitations on government power to prevent tyranny, and to help secure individuals' entrenched, inalienable rights. Ensures through cjecks and balances, federalism, and the separation of powers.
Federalism
Division of power between federal and state governments. To settle the balance between the need for strong central government and the powers of the states (a compromise for the federalists and anti-federalists). Reserved powers, concurrent powers, enumerated powers. Amendment X. The states' role in the amendment process. Equal representation of the states in the Senate. Dual federalism, cooperative federalism, New federalism. Is the USA now more nationalist?
