Area of a rectangle
A = L x WUsed when calculating the surface area of a rectangle or square.
volume of a rectangular prism
V = L x W x HEIGHTUsed to calculate three-dimensional space occupied by a shape.
area of a square
a^2 Calculated by multiplying the one side by itself twice. So (a^2) becomes (a x a). Since the shape is a perfect square, only one side needs to be measured.
perimeter
The distance around the outside of the rectangle.p = 2(l + w)
volume of a cube
v = a^3 (a to the third power)Used to calculate the space of a three-dimensional shape that has with equal width, height, and length measurements.
