Innervation: Tibial nerve
Action: plantar flexes ankle when knee is extended, raises heel during walking, flexes leg at knee joint
Function: prime mover of plantar flexion
PA: Lat head: lateral aspect of lateral console of femur. Med head: popliteal surface of femur; superior to medial condylar
DA: Posterior surface of Calcaneus via Calcaneal tendon
Solelus
PA: post aspect of head and sup quarter of post surface of the fibula; Soleil line and middle 1/3 of medial border of tibia; and tendinous arch extending btwn the bony attachments
DA: post surface of the calcaneus via Calcaneal tendon
NERVE: tibial nerve
Action: plantarflexion of ankle independent of position of knee, steadies leg on foot
Plantaris
PA: inferior end of lateral supra condylar line of femur; oblique popliteal ligament
DA: posterior surface of calcaneus via Calcaneal tendon
Nerve: tibial nerve
Action weakly assists gastrocnemius with plantar flexion of foot
Function: synergist
