Patch pockets
The beginner is therefore well advised to start off with only one patch pocket.
A pocket in the breast area is usually placed on the left side for easy reach by the right hand. If you are left handed (and do your own sewing), you may, of course, choose to place your pocket on the right side.
One advantage of a patch pocket is that the pocket is sewn before being attached to the garment.
If the pocket is not neat enough to your liking, it may be redone or left out.
A number of ways in which the pocket corner may be reinforced are illustrated.
In-seam pockets
The in-seam pocket may be cut all-in-one with the garment, completely separately, or withan extension to which the pocket may be attached.
The all-in-one in-seam pocket is thesimplest to construct, but may require a lot of extra fabric. If the fabric is very thick, thistype of pocket may be quite bulky.
