Structured Observation- Is when the researcher designs a type of coding scheme to record the participant behaviour.
Unstructured Observation- The researcher recording the behaviour they can see.
Naturalistic/Field Observation- When the researcher observes people in real locations.
Controlled/Laboratory Observation- Researcher controlls the variables.
Covert Observation- Participants were not told what was going to happen.
Overt Observation- Is when the participants are fully aware of whats happening.
Participant Observation- Observer is also a participant in this study.
Non Participant Observation- Where the researcher does not join in with the activity being studied.
Direct Observation- The researcher watches the subject in his/her own visual environment without altering that environment.
Indirect Observation- The researcher must rely on the reported observation.
Types of sampling methods:
Time- Researcher decides on time and then records what behaviour is occuring that time.
Event- Researcher recording an event every time it happens.
