Passage tombs: consisted of a circular hill/mound of earth. With a long passage leading from the entrance. Into a burial chamber. Every year on the 21st of December is the winter solstice. The rising sun shines in through the roof box + lights up the whole passageway into the burial chamber
The roof has no support its constructed with a over hanging stone layer which meet at the top with a flat stone
Corbelled roof: some stones have channels cut into them to carry away water. Burial chambers are ALWAYS dry .
Some curved stones on the Inside and outside at newgrange have spiral patterns of artwork
Best examples of passage tombs:
A) Boyne valley
B) knowth
C) Dowth
Newgrange dates back from 3200 BC
