NAACP (terms)
Was a group of social and political activists in New York created in 1909, to mainly create a response to the practice of lynching. They wished to promote equality and get rid of racial discrimination.
Black Nationalism (terms)
A social and political movement that promoted black unity and black independence. The origins of this group can be date back during the late 18th century and was at its most powerful state in the 1920s.
Classical Black Nationalism (encyclopedia)
The largest movement originated in Harlem, it grew out of the social, economic, and political experience of native and foreign-born blacks of the period. The KKK was at the all time peak of millions in membership, so in terms membership in numbers were congruent between Classical Black Nationalism and white American nationalism at the time. They fought about the enduring significance of racial identity, and argued for racial purity.
